Hit the gym early this morning, listening to a podcast on stablecoins.
Stablecoins are gaining importance by combining the stability of traditional currencies with the efficiency of blockchain technology. Pegged 1-to-1 to fiat currencies—most notably the US dollar—they are easier to use for payments than more volatile cryptocurrencies.
A key development is regulatory clarity in the United States, where stablecoin-friendly legislation enables dollar-backed stablecoins to scale under defined legal frameworks. This strengthens the dollar’s role in digital finance and supports broader adoption.
In Europe, the picture is different. While regulatory work is ongoing, the region has not yet matched the US in providing equally clear, scalable frameworks for widely used stablecoins.
