The philanthropic foundation contributes to the city, and what we continue to develop through the board

I just took a bicycle tour to stop and admire the buildings, and to reflect on what this philanthropic foundation contributes to the city, and what we continue to develop through the board.

Created a century ago, the foundation had a clear social purpose: to provide good housing for people connected to the working life of the city.

Today, the buildings contain more than 100 apartments and are protected for their architecture, craftsmanship and social history. Their story also reflects the importance of shipping and the harbour to the city’s development.

The purpose was to develop the board, broaden our perspective and look beyond our own industry for ideas and inspiration

During a board development trip to London last week, which I had the opportunity to lead with my special support, we used the city itself as part of the agenda.

The purpose was to develop the board, broaden our perspective and look beyond our own industry for ideas and inspiration.

The board was divided into groups and given three assignments.

Choose one book relevant to business today.
Our group chose Ed Conway’s Material World, a reminder of the importance of raw materials, supply chains and global dependencies behind modern business.

Find one piece of communication worth discussing.
We chose an American Express campaign in the Tube, focused on people and experiences rather than the product itself.

Find one company making a strong impression.
We chose Louis Vuitton and its ability to create a complete and instantly recognisable brand world through its London windows.

Entering a new phase — open for next assignments

I am now entering a new phase in my operative work and am available for new assignments.

My existing board assignments in listed and owner-led companies continue unchanged. Alongside these roles, I have for several years worked through my own company in management- and communication-focused assignments, typically in companies undergoing transition.

I continue to run my business as usual, while remaining open for larger or more comprehensive assignments as they arise.
